Francesca Kropp is a marine biologist, ocean lover, and lifelong shark enthusiast . Her passion for the sea drives her to study and protect its incredible creatures, especially sharks. Through research, education, and outreach, she strives to inspire others to see sharks not as something to fear, but as essential, awe-inspiring animals worth protecting. Â

1. What is your favorite shark, and why?
Bonnethead Sharks are a favorite for their size, eating habits, and peaceful nature.Â
2. What is one species of shark you would like to dive with?Â
The whale shark and the great white.Â
3. Why do you want to teach students about sharks?
I love teaching kids about sharks because it turns fear into fascination. Watching their curiosity grow as they learn how important sharks are to the ocean — and seeing that spark of respect and wonder — is the best part.

4. Can you tell us a little about your experience with sharks ( diving, research..etc)?
My experience with sharks has been a mix of research, education, and hands-on encounters in the water. I’ve had the incredible opportunity to observe sharks while diving, studying their behavior and how they interact with their environment. Whether it’s learning about their unique adaptations or sharing that knowledge with students, every experience deepens my respect for these afantasticanimals. Sharks remind me how vital balance is in the ocean — and how important it is that we protect them.

5. What is one thing you wish everyone knew about sharks? Sharks have no bones and amazing skin.
6. What is the most incredible moment you have had with sharks?
My most inspiring moment with sharks was the first time I had the privilege of seeing one on a dive. It was a blacktip reef shark. It peacefully swam around and then away. It was one of the most beautiful moments in all my dives.Â
