Diving with Great Hammerheads and Tiger Sharks in Bimini was the experience my childhood self had dreamed about. It was heavenly, peaceful, and something I cannot wait to do again! My favorite part about the dive was catching eye contact with each shark as they swam by me, not even phased by my presence. It’s a lot different than the scenes you see in the movies. There’s magic and peace in sharing space with what feels like our ocean’s royalty.

"Harley" the Tiger Shark
The more time I spend in the water, the more time I start to see that each individual shark has its own personality. They elegantly demand respect without asking for it, and we keep that in mind as divers while appreciating the opportunity to be visitors in their vast home. Harley was one of the sharks I will always remember because of her large personality, small body size, and her striking, or should I say “stripingly” beautiful markings! Queen is a 14-foot-long hammerhead who was so mesmerizing that I was forced to question reality every time she made her way around and over me. The experience I had during these dives is hard to explain with words because it felt so magical.
I share my experiences of diving with sharks because I hope to influence others, our readers, and younger generations to explore the beauty that our oceans have to offer, even if the world has taught you to fear it. I hope everyone gets to experience at least a part of the magic that the ocean has to offer. Who knows? It may turn your fears into fascination, and you’ll find yourself ready to keep blocking out your schedule for sharks!
